I'm Ricklyn — Career Coach for HR Professionals. I'm here to help you elevate your career.

Meet Ricklyn

Have you been trying to break the code and figure out how to land a role in HR?

Are you currently studying Human Resources Management and would love to hear about the transition into HR?

In this week’s episode, I am joined by Jalonni Weaver.

Jalonni is currently working as a Talent Acquisition Intern for Charles Schwab. Jalonni didn't know majoring or getting a degree in HR was a thing until last year. She received a Bachelors in Fine Arts focus in Photography in undergrad and once out of college started working for Southwest Airlines. But then the pandemic hit and the airline industry was massively affected. She left Southwest and went to work in the finance industry as an Operations Admin, having no idea what that entailed at the time.

Jalonni was inspired at an interview by three black women and straight after, she went home and applied for a Masters in Human Resource Management program. Jalonni loves being the face of the company and it is her goal is to make a difference wherever she’s employed and help people reach their career goals.

This conversation with Jalonni is very real and raw. Her authenticity and passion for wanting to make a difference in the lives of others really comes through. In this episode, Jalonni talks about the windy road she took and how she landed her current HR internship. She was one of 200 applicants selected out of thousands who applied.

We will explore the importance of advocating for yourself to attract the right opportunities and why networking and building relationships is the key to career success.
