According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median annual wage for HR Managers was $121,220 in May 2020. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $71,180, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $208,000. Employment of Human Resources Managers is projected to grow 6% from 2019 to 2029, faster than the average for ALL occupations.
Although certification is voluntary, it shows professional expertise and credibility, and it may enhance job opportunities. Employers may prefer to hire candidates with certification, and some positions may require it.
You don't need to take a prep course. It is completely optional. In fact, many people successfully pass the exam on the first attempt without completing a study course.
However, students who participate in study groups tend to generally learn faster and grasp concepts better than students who study alone because of the benefits of social learning. Also, sometimes you don't know what you don't know. Learning with a group can help you identify knowledge gaps you didn't realize you had.
Additionally, an instructor who has successfully passed the exam and is well-versed on the exam content can help you with study strategies and test-taking techniques by helping you focus on the content that will matter most on exam day.

Ricklyn Woods is a 4X Certified Human Resources Professional, HRCI Ambassador, and Instructor at HR Career Success Academy. She successfully passed the HRCI and SHRM senior level HR certification exams on the first attempt.
She holds a Masters Degree in Industrial and Organizational Psychology with a concentration in Coaching and Consulting, a Bachelor's in Psychology, and a certificate in Personal Development Coaching.
Ricklyn has a passion for helping HR professionals develop and advance their careers. She has discovered the keys to successfully pass the HRCI exam. She is a patient instructor and takes the time to meet learners where they are by breaking down complex concepts using easy-to-understand terminology. Her exam prep coaching and study strategies have helped multiple HR Pros pass the PHR/SPHR exam on their first attempt.
She is also the host of So You Want To Work in HR? The Podcast. New episodes are released every Wednesday on all major podcast platforms.
"Initially I thought I should prepare for my PHR, but after listening to Ricklyn's input as an HR professional, I decided to prep for my SPHR. Together we crafted a plan that took into account my personal life as well as my goals. Ultimately, I tested on my target date and although the exam was difficult, I passed! I don't mind sharing my success with her, as she was instrumental in keeping me focused and provided me so much support. When I hit roadblocks, or needed to talk through a topic, she was the voice of reason and despite her workload, she always remained accessible. I am grateful for her collaboration and hope to continue to work with her in the future. If you are on the fence about moving forward with a service she provides, don't be! You'll be glad you did."
- S, Newsome
"During our consultation you also mentioned for me to take the PHR exam, although I was hesitant, you encouraged me to take it an envision the sense of accomplishment/pride I would feel once I passed. Well with your expertise, mentoring, commitment, and dedication I am proud to say I/we passed the phr exam on the first attempt."
- N. McCoy
Although the exam content is different, the preparation process, study strategies, and test-taking techniques are the same. As an instructor, I devote the same amount of time and provide the same preparation and study experience for both exams.

I completely understand the sacrifice to take a class on Saturday. The courses are scheduled on Saturday for a couple of reasons.
1) After a long workday, the brain and body may be tired and unable to focus on consuming all the material that will be covered during the session. Having the class on a Saturday will allow students the opportunity to do the independent reading and assignments at their own pace throughout the week and get a good night's sleep before the live session on Saturday morning.
2) The course is open to students across the U.S., so a weekday course may have been too late in the day for students on the east coast.
That is perfectly understandable. Life happens.
A recording of each live session will be available.
I would plan to spend 8 - 10 hours per week on reading course material, responding to the course discussion forum, completing assignments, taking quizzes, and practice exams.
You will receive an email notification with a link to the calendar to schedule your session toward the end of the course.
Refunds are not available. While the objective is most certainly to pass the exam, know that there is value in the learning that will occur throughout this course. Each student that I have worked with has amazed by how much they learned, even those who had been in HR for over 20 years. This exam prep course will challenge you to think more deeply and broadly, and as a result elevate your capability as an HR business partner.
If you take the exam within 2 weeks of completing the course AND complete all modules and assignments, and do not pass the exam, you can retake the course at no additional charge.
